Robert Lewandowski is no longer the captain of Poland’s national football team. The decision to make this change was made by Michał Probierz, who appointed Piotr Zieliński as the new captain starting this past Sunday.

Following this shake-up, the Barcelona striker decided to step down from the national team entirely. This move has sparked a wave of media reactions and widespread discussion. One of the individuals who weighed in on the situation is Tomasz Hajto.

“If the coach feels a captain isn’t fitting his plans, he has every right to make a change. This, however, shouldn’t be a reason to say ‘I’m not playing anymore.’ Michał Probierz did not force him out of the team. He simply determined he wanted a captain who consistently shows up for games.”

“Not all coaches develop strong bonds with players, but players don’t play for the coach. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that as long as Probierz is in charge, he bears full responsibility for the team’s outcomes. I’d like to reiterate what Modric and Ronaldo have emphasised: the national team comes above all else. No player is bigger than the team,” said Tomasz Hajto.

According to “Przegląd Sportowy Onet,” Michał Probierz’s decision was reportedly met with applause from within the team. The atmosphere surrounding the national team is currently quite intense.

It’s worth noting that on Tuesday, June 10, the White-and-Reds will face one of their most crucial matches in the World Cup qualifiers. Their opponent will be Finland, a direct competitor in the battle for a spot in the tournament.
